Tuesday Is For Rocking

I love Tuesdays. Tuesday is the day of the week that dawns fresh with new possibilities and opportunities. Wait, you know what I’m talking about don’t you? In the music industry, Tuesday is generally the day that new albums drop. For me, Tuesday is the day I’m hopping on Internet music sites to see what new treasures I’ll be loading up on my various MP3 players.

Most of my browsing is done on iTunes even if I don’t purchase the music there. One thing Apple definately got right is the software side of the equation. I have both iPod and Zune here and while I love the Microsoft hardware, their software really doesn’t hold a candle to Apple’s. The iTunes music store is so fast and easy to use when it comes to previewing new music, I sample the new stuff there and then go looking for the best place to actually get the music. I’d buy it all through iTunes, but I’m not a fan of any DRM that limits what I can do with my music.

This was an exceptionally good week for new music, at least for me. Your tastes may vary! I wound up buying nine new albums this week based on my online browsing. Two things I always have feelers out for are covers and remixes. Major scores on both points, with New Found Glory releasing a full album of punked up movie songs, including covers of Head Over Heels and Don’t You Forget About Me. My remix fix was filled by the OST from Resident Evil: Extinction with a fantastic remix of Flyleaf’s I’m So Sick done by The Legion of Doom.

The next thing I normally look for, after satisfying my peculiar fetish for alternative versions of favorite songs are new albums by bands I enjoy. Plenty of choices this week, I wound up with new albums from The Donnas, Thousand Foot Krutch and Motion City Soundtrack. The Donnas I especially like, the combination female vocals and rocking punk sounds that is hard to resist. TFK is a Christian rock band and while it’s a genre I don’t especially follow, I’ve seen them in concert and really enjoyed their show so I continue to follow their career.

Finally, I always try to check out music from new artists I haven’t listened to previously. Sometimes my experimentation takes me way off the beaten path but I normally prefer rock and alternative. A number of interesting albums caught my ear today. Albums from Submersed, Ministry, KT Tunstall and Biffy Clyro joined my library. A little bit of a Scottish theme with those last two, though their styles couldn’t be more different!

So, that was my Tuesday in music… what have you found interesting to listen to lately?

I believe the topic was “rocking” not drowning my sorrows in beer while cruising with my dog in my pickup truck… ;-)

Yep… music release day! I normally check Amazon a couple weeks ahead and then mark release dates of favorite bands. :)

I like the new place. Easy on the eyes yet makes my eye wander around!

Hey, I’ve told you what happens when you play a country album backwards. Your dog doesn’t get run over, your wife doesn’t leave you, you don’t get thrown in jail… LOL

Hmmm, I should know the Go-Go’s song but I can’t place it. Gonna have to track it down now to refresh my memory!
