West Seattle has become my “go to” part of Seattle when I want to get out with camera in hand and not spend any more time driving that necessary. I can be there in just about 15 minutes and avoid traffic the whole way if necessary. Makes for a pleasant outing, like today!
The weather was forecast to be beautiful on Saturday and that proved to be the case. Temperatures hit the low 60s and the skies were blue and sunny. It was really foggy in the morning but most of that burned off by mid-day, though I still saw traces of mist on the water. I headed down to Lincoln Park first thinking I’d be able to find plenty of leaves and trees there. Some of the trees have turned already, but there was still a lot of green to be found. Probably a *little* early in the season for full Fall foliage. The light along the shore wasn’t that great but I snapped a few shots of the Ferry and some tree shots.
Then I headed over towards Alki just to see how the late afternoon sun was looking on downtown Seattle. Not bad, but not all that great either. Still, I was there, the camera was there, why not? After a few shots I decided to go check out a place I’d read about and driven by but never stopped at…. Jack Block Park. This park is a bit of an oddity because it’s not a city or state park. Instead, it’s actually owned and maintained by the Port of Seattle as part of it’s small network of parks located on or near port property.
This turned out to be an interesting little park. From maps it looked like you could get a view of part of the Port and still see the Seattle skyline. The views are actually pretty good once you hike out to the observation area. I spent most of my time with the camera here today and had a blast. I’ll visit this location again and explore some of the other Port of Seattle parks as well.
The weather on Sunday is supposed to be pretty decent again. If I can drag myself out of bed early enough, I’m thinking about heading down to Alki to see if I can get a few foggy sunrise shots of the Seattle skyline. We’ll see how that turns out!

Well, it’s *a* place… if you go to the following URL and download the viewpoints map, I think there are probably better locations for shots of the Port but I haven’t visited them… yet…

Gorgeous color reflected in the Elliot Bay photo. I also love your “misty” one, it gives a feeling of a ghost background. Truly stunning!
And there is no explaining the upward search in trees, as I do it myself, and I don’t know why. It is not like I am looking for a critter or anything. I just like the angle the branches grow out from the trunk. So, of course, I really love your upward tree photos ;x)
Seattle is like a dream city. One of these days I will come up for a visit.

I love the Ferry in the Mist shot especially, and the water shot with the Space Needle in the back. THAT could be a postcard.

Whatever you’ve done in the past say, 4 weeks, has been awesome. Your pictures were always “good” but these pictures are “outstanding”, I’ve been blown away by the POV, DoF and the coloring!
I need to come to Seattle and go on one of your Photo Safaris…
