Laughing With Kathy

Saturday evening I dragged Marianna into Seattle to see Kathy Griffin at the Paramount Theater. I know not everyone is into Kathy, but I’ve been a huge fan of hers forever. I’ve never seen her live prior to this, but I’ve seen her stand-up routine on cable so had some idea what to expect. I suspect Marianna and many others didn’t! If you only watch her Bravo show “My Life on the D-List” you might not realize how raunchy she can be!
Marianna and I met up in Factoria which is across the lake from Seattle. I figured it would be easier to take one car into the city. Since I refused to accept any money from M for the ticket, she insisted on buying dinner. I could live with that, so we had a nice meal at a really good Mexican restaurant called Torero’s. After that, we headed downtown early. Good thing we did because parking was scarce. The garage I normally use was full but we found another nearby only a few blocks from the theater.
The Paramount is a beautiful theater. It originally opened in 1928 and was completely renovated in the mid-1990s. The beautiful moldings and stunning chandeliers create the perfect environment for enjoying a show or concert. Our seats were at the front of the balcony level, with a clear, unobstructed view of the stage. We both brought small cameras, but for me getting a good shot inside the theater was nearly impossible due to the lighting.
The house was packed to capacity as show time arrived. The crowd erupted with applause and everyone sprang to their feet as Kathy took the stage. For the next two hours I was riveted as she spun hilarious story after story. For those not familiar with her stand-up, Kathy’s act mostly consists of her dishing up stories about herself and other stars. Her latest act included a long bit about the Osmond family, Oprah Winfrey, Kathy’s Emmy award and the controversy over her acceptance speech, the fun she had taking Steve “The Woz” Wozniak to the Emmy’s as her date, and plenty more.
When she finally wrapped the show to a standing ovation, it was hard to believe the time had passed. Kathy really keeps the pace up from start to finish and I laughed through it all. I can’t wait for her to visit Seattle again, I’ll most certainly be in the audience again!

OMG my fave part of her act was when she was talking about her date Steve. I could imagine him being JUST LIKE THAT!
Thank you again! I had a blast! Even though I’ve told you about “no climbing” in the past, there we were, climbing what seemed like a million stairs to the car after the show… LOL
M~
The show sounds absolutely terrific!
Parking is always bad in Seattle– no wonder you had a tough time finding a spot.
It sounds like you guys had a wonderful time. I’d love to see her show someday.
Does sound fun even though I never really found her that funny.
Sounds like a great time was had. I’m with Leesa… I have never really found her that funny.
Glad you two had a fun time.
Sounds like a workout of both legs & lungs!
Glad you two had a great time.
I like her. She was in a sit com, wasn’t she? It was with Brooke Shields, I think?
Anyway, never heard her really “raunch up” but I sure bet she could go there!
Oh, I have to hear the bit about the Osmonds. And her stuff on Oprah always cracks me up (like the bit about the “white” microphone). I love Kathy! And have long before she became a gay icon.
Gosh, I haven’t been in The Paramount since 1989. I didn’t know they renovated it. Fun photo.
