Catching Up

Did I mention how *ready* I am for the year to be over? I really need to catch my breath. I’ve just been way too busy lately. Not with shopping though, that’s been done for a while now. The Internet is your friend, I avoid stores this time of year. So what’s happened lately? Let’s see… the small, seasonal drama gig I was working on is over, Lindsey had her winter concert and Matt and I overdosed on movies… what, you want details? Keep reading…
Frequent readers will recall that I’ve mentioned a few times that I agreed to direct a piece for a church-based drama group I’ve worked with in the past. It was a rocky start as I went into it thinking they wanted to do something substantial and get away from the “skit” type projects they’ve done in the past. Sadly, not so much. They decided they wanted to do a Christmas piece and I reluctantly kept my mouth shut and soldiered on as this isn’t really the kind of theater I’m interested in at all.
Things improved when they picked a show I could cast my daughter in and that was the silver-lining for me because while she’s been on stage before, never in a show with me and never under my direction. We wound up having a lot of fun, despite a key actress losing her voice the week we opened and having to be replaced at the last minute. I snapped a few photos during our dress rehearsal and assembled a short video for the cast.
Two days after our final of three performances, this past week, Lindsey had her winter concert. She’s playing flute this year in the beginning band and this was her first big performance of the school year. It went superbly! I really couldn’t even tell if she was nervous at all, she’s pretty comfortable performing by now having also done dance and drama in the past. It will be interesting to see if she sticks with flute going forward, she’s been making noises about learning to play Matt’s sax too and a few other instruments. Too early to tell I imagine, but she sounds great to me! More photos from the night on Flickr.
Then finally, this weekend Matt came over for a sort of movie marathon. We had a stack of foreign flicks we wanted to watch. He and I both really enjoy foreign horror and scifi films, especially in their original language with subtitles. Neither of us like dubbed soundtracks. This weekend we watched Day Watch, The Host and Casshern. We had also planned to watch the original, Japanese version of Pulse, but instead opted to go see I Am Legend at the theater. Great film BTW, enjoyed it a great deal!
Thankfully, this week is my last week of work for the year. Then I’m off until the 2nd. I need the break! I’ve got a few parties I’m attending this week and a few projects to work on over the holidays, but for the most part I’m going to *try* to relax a little! Wish me luck…

VERY cool video! I’m glad Lindsey did great at the concert, too!
Hey, are you screening National Treasure 2? I hope it’s a good movie.
M~
You *have* been busy! Enjoy your time off and the holidays!
Awesome snapshot video! I was in one play in my life, “A Christmas Carol”, and my brain went blank, so I improvised. What was supposed to be a touching dramatic moment, ended up being totally comical. Needless to say, I never auditioned to do another play again. LOL
Wonderful photos of your daughter! It brings back memories for me. I play the Native American flute now, but I always loved playing the piccolo in HS. With its smallness comes an undeniable power in shrillness.
Have a most excellent REST and an even better holiday! Merry Christmas to you & your kids, and the cat. ~Can’t forget the cat :x)
Wonderful video! I’m so glad you two could work together.
I’m glad to hear I am Legend is good as I’ve been thinking about seeing it.
Enjoy your time off and relax!
um…disregard my concerned “you’ve been mia” email. I checked yesterday and you hadn’t updated..but I see now that I should’ve checked before emailing you! LOL Wow..how cool that you were able to cast Lindsey..what a neat way for the two of you to spend time together! I love that you do things both individually and together with your kids..you’re a cool dad!
Stacie
I’ll have to come back later to watch the vid…everyone here is sleeping..
That’s going to be a great memory.
She must get her talent from her dad.
Fun video.
