Road Trip!

Today has been a flurry of preparation. Laundry, packing, running to the bank, etc. Bright and early tomorrow I’m hitting the road for Orofino, Idaho. What’s in Orofino you ask? Damifino, never been there.

A buddy and I are heading over for an event called Boomershoot. A testosterone-laden gathering billed as a “long range, high-power, precision rifle shooting event with high explosive, reactive targets.” I agreed to act as a spotter for another shooter. I figure I’ll have a blast taking photos and video and let’s be honest, I like guns. Just one of my many endearing quirks.

It’s a long drive from Seattle so I figured we’d need music. That means assembling a playlist on the iPod, or maybe the Zune (I go both ways). I talked to the other Mike about his musical tastes. Big band music, country and western and the Beach Boys. Huh. I punted and assembled a playlist based on published top ten lists of favorite road songs figuring there’d be stuff on there we could both live with.

After that I headed off to get a haircut since I was looking a little shaggy and didn’t want to be mistaken for a “hippy tree hugger” in Idaho. As I’m sitting in the chair at my favorite barber shop (yes, I use a barber, not a stylist) I noticed glints of silvery color in the clumps of hair on my lap. I immediately thought, “What the… whose hair is… oh.” I am apparently not as young as I think I am.

Anyway, leaving tomorrow and back late Monday. I’m taking the MacBook with me on it’s first road trip. The Konkolville Motel (a historically unique experience) says it has some sort of Internet so I may actually be able to get online in the evening. Wish me luck!

    “damifino” HA!

I looked at the motel and it looks awesome - Grill Your Own Steaks??? Does it get any better than that!?

I hope you have a good time.

And Orofino is small and rather nice. Barb and I went to High School there.

I can confirm already that Joe is indeed correct, Orofino is a beautiful little town and the folks are very friendly. We made a few stops in town yesterday and everyone we spoke with took the time to have a few words with us. I have to say, I do prefer the pace in smaller places like this. Life gets a little too fast in Seattle sometimes.

I stayed at the Konkolville for my first Boomershoot in 2005. Nice folks running the place. Hope you had as good a stay as I did.
