I should have just titled this Too Much Good Music! I finally narrowed it down to seven tracks, though technically one of those came out last week and I missed it. Even with seven songs, I left out some stuff I really wanted to share. What can I say? It was a good week for music releases!
What we have here is a hodge-podge of styles and themes. I like to think of it as a little something for everybody. Unless you’re Marianna who likes country and can’t listen anyway. Sorry M!
This first track isn’t technically a new release, it debuted back in March but the EP is only just now hitting the iTunes store. It was the album cover the grabbed my eye (see image). It’s um, hard to describe. You’re really better off listening for yourself. I’m not responsible for the results, I like it in some strange way.
Enfant Terrible by Sonny J
Now this actually is a new album, just came out today! I hadn’t heard of Ryan prior to this but he does have a couple of other albums out I’ll have to track down. It’s got a nice beat and I like his voice.
Sit Back, Relax by Ryan Cabrera
This band from Tennessee debuted in 2001 but haven’t done anything since 2005. This new album is the first time I remember encountering them and I must say, I really like their music. This particular track is one of their down tempo songs, most of them rock a little harder than this. I can really relate to the message here.
Dying Youth by 10 Years
I picked this next album up thinking my daughter might like it. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. Ignore the fact that I plainly have listened to it. It was, err… research. For you, all for you! The group is The Veronicas, twin sisters, neither named Veronica. I can’t explain it. They are however, Australian.
I Can’t Stay Away by The Veronicas
Gotta cover local boys gone national, Death Cab for Cutie. Their music is hit or miss with me, I did like this song though. I had to track down the radio edit, the album version runs to over 8 minutes long. The first four minutes or so is an instrumental introduction.
I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie
I posted an older track by this band not too long ago. I didn’t know that Filter had a new album about to drop, they haven’t done anything since the early 2000s. I kinda figured they had broken up. The new album is fairly dark in tone, and softer in spots but they’re still recognizable. As a fan, I liked it.
I Keep Flowers Around by Filter
Finally, we’re going out this week with another band from the “land down under.” This is drum-and-bass group Pendulum with a track off their new album. I’m listening to it as I type this with the sub cranked up high enough that stuff is vibrating around on my desk. I love it! If you don’t bob your head or dance around to this track you better check your pulse.

You totally brought me a discovery…I love “Dying Youth”….I am anxious to listen to the rest of the Division album.
These words hit me so poignantly…
“Those who are looking backwards
Chose to live as statues
….frozen…fractured “

Ha! I just spent some time listening to these while I handled some paperwork, and I thought that, of all of them I listened to, I loved “Dying Youth” the most, and then I glanced up at Lea’s comment above and saw it resonated there, too!
I’ll need to spend a little more time with the Death Cab for Cutie track. I can’t imagine I could take a 4 minute instrumental intro. Thanks for the spare there!

Some interresting stuff there, but a little out of my usual Jazz and Blues. The first one was compelling in an odd indie-stuck-in-my-head way.
